Question (Q): What has been your favorite Curler Outreach webinar?

Vincent Scebbi (VS): So far, I really enjoyed the delivery analysis (with Dave Jensen). I really wanted to watch the mixed doubles webinar (with Chelsea Carey and Colin Hodgson) but was just coming back from a spiel that weekend and couldn’t register in time (good news- won the third event that weekend, so there was at least some glassware coming home).

Q: Do you have any special roles at your club, or leagues/spiels you regularly enjoy?

VS: I run Mayfield Curling’s Twitter page and help serve as an instructor for our new curler clinics. My favorite league nights are our competitive Monday nights and our Friday night mixed draws are usually a lot of fun.

Q: How did you find curling?

VS: Like most, I got into curling after watching the Olympics. Inspired by USA’s Gold Medal run, I knew I had to try curling. Once I got on the ice, I knew I was in for life.

Q: Best moment of curling in your life- on or off the ice.

VS: As of right now, on the ice, I’d say qualifying for the 5-and-Under National Bonspiel last year. It was my first bonspiel throwing vice and I really enjoyed my teammates.

Q: Do you have any personal curling goals for the future?

VS: I have a lot, haha. My biggest goal is to take an Instructor Level 1 course. My thought process is the more I can learn about curling, the better I can get. I also just want to continually get better and try to become a more competitive curler. I would love to get more experience playing in cash spiels or more competitive spiels and eventually becoming good enough to win them.

Q: Especially in these uncertain times, what does being a curler mean to you?

VS: Being a curler means so much to me right now. With a lot of “normal life” changing, being able to curl right now is a sense of normalcy. After last season canceling early, I know never to take curling for granted ever again.

Q: Anything else you'd like folks to know- about yourself, your club, etc?

VS: Yes! I have lots to tell about Mayfield Curling Club. First, we are the only dedicated ice facility in Northeast Ohio. Second, we just opened a brand new facility that opened in January. We’ve expanded from three to four sheets. As we get through the pandemic, I hope Mayfield will begin hosting more spiels and continue to help grow the sport in Ohio.

Thank you, Vincent, for your support. Good Curling, Vincent and the Mayfield Curling Club!
