Question (Q): What is the origin story of Curling Mexico?

Angelica (A): The Mexican Curling Federation originated in 2016 and in 2017. We had the Olympic Tour Celebration with a special guest, Kaitlyn Lawes. This was very important for Mexican curling because in a way it was the official beginning of curling in Mexico.

In 2019, Ramy Cohen and Adriana along with Coach Barry Ivy represented Mexico for the very first time at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championships (WMDCC). This was a great moment for Mexican curling and very inspiring for other players. For the next season, we were able to have a women's team (Adriana Camarena, Angelica Perez Anzures, Estefana Quintero and Monica Tompkins) and a men’s team (Diego Tompkins, Ramy Cohen, Ismael Abreu and Mateo Tompkins) represent Mexico at the Americas Challenge where we obtained second place for both teams and allowed us to qualify for a spot at the World Qualification Event (WQE) in Lohja, Finland. This was a great accomplishment because it was the very first participation for the teams.

Q: What supports and allies does Curling Mexico have?

A: The most beautiful thing about curling is that we are in a big community that is very supportive, so when it comes to supporters and allies, we have been very fortunate to have many of them.

The World Curling Federation (WCF) has been one of our biggest allies as well as the communities that have helped our players grow to be more experienced and competitive curlers.

Q: Where does Curling Mexico curl presently?

A: Mexican players curl right now in a few different clubs in Canada and the USA. It has worked for us because there are already Mexicans curling in Canada and the USA. Mexico doesn't have curling facilities, that is something we are hoping to be able to have in the near future.

The Mexican Curling Federation has made an association with Southern California Curling Center and it will be our official USA location. This is great for us because Los Angeles has a huge Mexican demographic and it will allow us to grow more competitive Mexican curlers that will be able to represent us in the future.

Q: What are your future goals for Curling Mexico?

A: One of our biggest goals is to have facilities in Mexico so that we can develop and grow curling at home for both competitive and recreational purposes.

Q: What makes Curling Mexico unique?

A: Curling Mexico is unique in the sense that people don't relate it with winter sports. When people think of Mexico it is not with snow- people imagine hot weather at the beach.

Q: What do you want the world to know about Curling Mexico?

A: We are very happy to be part of this beautiful community.
